Pumpkin Patch with Austin

Went to the Pumpkin Patch with Austin and Audrey just like last year. Had so much fun, except for when PK tripped in the mud. He has such personality and LOVES being outside and running free. These two boys are so funny together, so different but both total BOYS. I can't get enough of it.

This Halloween Parker was the cutest chicken you ever did see! I am only posting these pics because my favorite little sister called from BYU and demanded that I post some pics soon, so here ya go Kish! We did go to our ward's and Tina's ward's trunk or treat to score some candy but on Halloween we stayed home to answer the door, it was our first year being able to do that and it was so much fun! Parker would get really excited when the doorbell would ring and he can now understandably say "trick or treat." We love our cute little chicken. And thanks Tina for the costume!

Do the Puyallup

The night that Seth and I went to the fair with all our besties, he won Parker a Pablo! And I got a root beer float!

The Puyallup Fair! This was the first and probably the only year when we decided to actually do the whole fair experience. We splurged and had some extremely unhealthy food to eat, rode a couple rides, tried to win $150, played some extremely unfair and expensive carnival games, watched the hypnotist and had a blast! I have to say it was even worth it to wait in line for the WildCat!
During the day we wanted to take Parker and Gage to see all the animals, which they LOVED! We got to see a zedonk (half donkey half zebra) and a lot of other cool animals. Gage went fishing and rode ALL the John Deeres. It was so much fun to take the boys around.

Gage's favorite part was the John Deere section, we HAD to spend a long time here test driving every machine. Parker rode the skid-steer but wasn't interested in anything else.

Parker and His Daddy

Parker and his Daddy are best buds. Seth is seriously the BEST dad ever! He teaches and plays with Parker so much. He is already excited to teach him how to shave, the proper way to eat cheez-its and how to correctly drink the "after cereal" milk. Parker and Seth do lots of man stuff together, like building the shed, cementing the fence posts, hauling dirt, and yard work. Whenever I come home from being gone Parker gets excited and will give me a big hug and kiss but when Daddy comes home its more like run around, jump up and down and laugh hysterically and scream at the top of your lungs kid of excited. Those boys...

Tiger Mountain

We LOVE hiking in this family! About a month after we found out we were pregnant with Parker we HAD to go out a buy a sweet hiking backpack to pack along our boy. We LOVE all things outdoors and hiking is one of our favorites by far. We plan on taking our kids on many outdoor adventures and this was one of Parker's firsts. His first hike was actually when he was 3 months old though. But this time he had a blast! And he even hiked up a good section of the trail in his sweet hiking boots, which happened to be super steep. We did the back side of Tiger Mountain, coming from the I-90, which Seth and I always wanted to do but never have before. It was a good day outside, Seth came home early from work and so we just packed up and left. The pictures may deceive you but Seth carried Parker 85% of the time and then I carried him because I wanted to try out the pack and it happened to be when we found a good view. Parker was so tired and he fell asleep on the way down. Seth tested out Randy's new hiking boots for him, which were great. We had lunch at the top and had an extremely tired baby at the end of the day. Hiking is the best.

Remlinger Farms

Back in the beginning of July sometime (I am very behind on blogging) while the big boys were away at scout camp, Parker and I went with our friends to Remlinger Farms. It was so much fun! The girls got their faces painted, we got to take a train ride, drive a car, play in the hay, ride roller coasters and the girls even got to ride a horse. Parker loved it and I especially loved having something fun to do while Seth was away. I think next year he will love it even more, he didn't care too much about seeing the animals and was too young to go on the rides. Thanks so much Angells for inviting us to tag along!

Summer of Projects

This summer has been FUN and FULL of projects. My husband is so great and he is exceptionally cute when he does manly things. Projects that he has done so far:
- The pictures are of the 20 yards of dirt we had delivered and spread over the back yard to level it out a bit and fill in some holes, everyone was always tripping back there
- Re-done the ENTIRE garage including adding insulation, drywall, painting, installing cabinets for my food storage and adding padding
- Built a super fancy glass fencing around the back deck so Parker can play outside
- Built me a 2nd garden box and built me really big and really nice trellises for my peas
- Re-done the entire front yard including, bringing in new plants and trees and he helps me constantly weed and keep it up
- Built a frame around the door to the garage
- Installed a garbage disposal for me
- Re-did half the back fence because the guy who installed it did a crappy job
- His current and biggest project thus far is building a shed (without any plans) which includes pouring a cement base, framing, manly stuff, installing siding, building a door
- Once the shed is complete, which won't be long, we are re-roofing the house

Basically my husband is an amazingly hard worker and this summer has been very productive. How he manages to work at the hospital, take us on a few vacations, have plenty of time to play with PK and go out on dates with me and still have time to do all these projects and sleep is beyond me. I feel accomplished when I shower and get the laundry done!

Parker LOVES LOVES LOVES to help his daddy do manly things. Anything involving outside and especially dirt is PK's domain. I'm not worried too much though, he needs to get used to it, I'll have plenty of work for him to do when he's older.

First Battle Wound

Parker finally has his first battle wound. The pictures make it look worse than it is. He cut his pinky on the blade of my food processor (it was unplugged but I foolishly placed it within reach and have since learned my lesson). He was very brave and never even cried. It was a minor cut but we ended up wrapping his whole hand because he kept ripping the little band-aid off. I am actually quite surprised he made it this long considering he is a Grisham boy.

Monster Party

Last Sunday we had Parker's 1st Birthday Party! It was a fun family party and Ashley (the family party planner) went ALL out! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! It was a great party and everything was Monster themed for our little monster. Totally cute! For all 3 of you who read my blog, check out ashley's shop called pinwheel lane on etsy.com she sells TONS of cute parties. The pictures pretty much explain it all. Parker LOVES birthday cake, especially frosting. He got some new books and a smart trike and a red wagon! He couldn't be a happier or luckier boy!

One Year Ago Today

June 15, 2010 our little Parker boy was born. It has been a fun and tiring and exciting year for all of us. It is crazy how fast they grow and I can't believe its only been one year. We love this little man so much and life has been so much better with him. Seth fits the daddy role perfectly and has been so wonderful to me while I am still learning and understanding what it means to be a mother. I feel so blessed to be Parker's mother, he is teaching me so much and I love him unconditionally. Happy Birthday!

On Saturday Seth graduated! We are so proud of him! Parker is especially happy for his daddy because now he will have more time to play. Next step is PA school but we are not sure where yet, we are looking into a few all over the place. It was a beautiful day out and Parker was so well behaved during the 3 hour ceremony. This was Parker's first time over to visit and he LOVED it. There were so many new things to do and new friends to play with. We can't wait to go again! Seth loved riding the go-cart around the orchard and I especially loved being with one of my best friends, Kamry! Parker loved having someone to play with ALL the time and he also enjoyed being pushed around in the doll stroller, jumping on the trampoline, playing tag in the yard, seeing the horses, playing at the cabin on Lake Chelan, having a practice birthday party and eating delicious cake. What a great weekend! Parker has never slept so hard before. He was wiped out from all the fun he was having.

11 Months

Parker has accomplished a lot in the last month. He can now walk and can successfully climb up the side of his crib, climb on top of my kitchen stool to reach something on the counter that he wants such as a bag of goldfish crackers. He has grown 3 top teeth and don't ask me where the 4th one is. He can now open cupboards and drawers and make a mess in 5 minutes that takes me 10 minutes to clean up. He can drink from a cup with no help and prefers to eat with a fork. He still has a smile that seems to attract all the ladies. He can successfully take out all the toys in his toy box and his favorite toys are his bouncy zebra, his airplane and his soccer balls. He can brush his teeth on his own (he mostly just sucks the water off the bristles.) And he can carry on a conversation with me for a good ten minutes although I have no clue what we are talking about. His favorite pastime is playing with his dad when he comes home and when his dad is not home he likes to vacuum with me and read books. We love Parker so much and can hardly believe he is one month shy of a year.

At the Park with my Cousins

We live super close to the park so we plan on going a lot this summer. Last week I took Parker twice in one day! He loves it and I love being outside with him. I say it all the time but he is such a boy and just like his father. We had so much fun on Saturday when Gage and Harper came to the park with us. The kids played hard and we played the game red light green light on the way home. Needless to say we all got some good naps in that afternoon.

The evening before I had Parker we went to the park with everyone and I bounced on this thing for a good 10 minutes and a few hours later I was in labor. So I just had to give Parker a go on the springy thing... he didn't like it very much. These are the only pictures were he isn't smiling.

10 Months!

At 10 months Parker is busier and more curious than ever. He can do so many new tricks. He wants to walk so badly but just can't seem to figure it out on his own. His current favorite foods are mangos, blueberries, PB&J, yogurt and rice. He LOVES playing soccer. He is so happy to chase the ball around the house and he LOVES watching his dad play soccer every Thursday. He thinks brushing his teeth is hilarious. He likes to investigate new things thus we finally had to put baby locks on the cupboards. On average we read 5 books a day and if Parker had his way all the time we would have to read more. He prefers to play with tupperware, pots and pans and soccer balls over his regular toys. He loves the baby jogger and going running with me. He likes to look for airplanes and point them out to us by screaming and pointing when he sees one. He thinks the vacuum is a ride. The piano gets played everyday. He talks all the time but we have yet to understand him. He flirts with EVERYONE. When we put his sunglasses on him he actually leaves them on and doesn't try to take them off. When I took these pictures he wasn't interested in sitting still for too long so they didn't turn out as cute as I had hoped. Oh well, at this point you just take what you can get.

Oh Happy Day

Last Saturday my cousin, Jacen, and our good buddy, Anthony, were both baptized. Parker was very well behaved for both baptisms and so when we got home we let him crawl around on the grass. He isn't a huge fan of grass at the moment, our lawn is prickly and we will be re-doing the entire front and back yard this summer and hopefully he will learn to like it. But last weekend he was so happy to play in the yard with his daddy and didn't cry once when he touched the grass (big improvement from last time).

9 Months!

I promise these were actually taken when he was 9 months but I just haven't gotten around to putting them up til now. We have been super busy with work and school and family trips to the cabin and mostly at the end of the day I lack the motivation to update our blog. At 9 months Parker is a moving machine, moving monster, always on the go, even in his sleep! I will try to upload the video as proof but he knows what a cow, chicken and a sheep say. We are working on other animals but his favorite is the cow, he is good at moo-ing. He is an excellent little swimmer, LOVES to blow bubbles in the water and he is working on a regular kick rather than the little mer-man kick he was doing. He takes 2 good naps everyday. He LOVES his daddy so much. He is also an excellent eater. Right now his favorite foods are grapes, cheerios, meatballs, bananas, any kind of berry, spaghetti, anything I am eating, and as of recently he decided he loves kiwis. His favorite sport is soccer. No joke. He will play with his soccer balls all day long, chasing them all over and he always has the biggest smile when we hold him up and help him kick the ball around. He has no fear. Loves to go running with me. Loves reading books. I feel so lucky to be his momma!

8 Months!

At 8 months Parker is on the move! He LOVES to climb, crawl, play the piano, chase me and seth, run away and he loves to talk and especially loves to eat. His new favorite foods are grapes and yogurt. He yells for me in the middle of the night, a very coherent MAMAMAMA! But when he's happy and laughing he yells a very coherent DADADADA. He tries to talk to me all the time and get a kick out of trying to mimic us. We love our Parker boy. His little, or shall I say, BIG personality is really showing through. He is excellent at clapping and giving high fives. We are working on waving good-bye but he'd rather just give high-fives. He is constantly flirting and smiling at all the ladies he meets. Ohhhh Parker boy, how you have grown!

Parker had his very first haircut today. I wanted to wait until his first birthday but he was turning into a sweat ball and his scraggly hairline was getting crazy. He also prefers to have a mohawk and it was borderline X-treme with his long hair so we decided to just cut it. We trimmed it up, shortened it and made him look exceptionally cuter than ever. Heidi is his hairstylist and she was so nice to make a house call just for Parker. He did pretty well for a while because he was drinking some of my fruit smoothie but when we ran out he was not so happy and I had to hold him so Heidi could finish up.

Parker is exceptionally cute at 7 months old, but that comes to no surprise. His favorite thing to do is to flirt with all the ladies everywhere we go... nurses, cashiers, waitresses. He is a ladies man all the way. At 7 months he is really into standing, climbing, crawling super fast, eating new foods and doing guy stuff with his daddy. We had to buy a second bumper to put on his crib because he will wake up at night and try to stand up still half asleep, after one minor bump on the head we don't want to go through that again. He is also doing great putting himself to sleep after we read books at night. His newest trick is giving high fives. He LOVES going running with me and every week we go out for a family run, all three of us. I had to buy him some new sunglasses because he grew out of the little ones that strap to his head and surprisingly he leaves his sunglasses on, no attempt to take them off which is amazing. We LOVE our little chunk monster!

What a Day!

Reluctantly, Parker and I left the house today for some much over-due errands. I first took my phone to the Sprint store as it was acting up and the outside cover was a bit stretched out. The guy who helped me out said that normally they would just clean it up and replace the backing but then he said not to worry about it and instead I am having a brand new phone shipped to the house free of charge! WOW! I was super excited. THEN I went to Old Navy because my sweet husband bought me a watch there and the other day it just stopped working. I only had this watch for less than a week. Problem here was I had thrown away the receipt. The lady at the counter said normally they don't allow you to return or exchange without an original receipt but just this once she was going to let it slide. SWEET, I also got a brand new watch, a hot pink one this time. THEN as I was loading Parker in the car a random stranger said, "Excuse me, I am not weird or anything, but do you want some towels and pillows?" Initial thought: yes, you are weird and is towels and pillows code for something else? But this nice gentlemen works for a company called standard textiles based out of Cincinnati, Ohio and he had a trunk full of brand new towels, down pillows, bed sheets, a queen size down comforter and beach towels that he brought up here for a meeting and couldn't take back on the flight home. He said I could have them all for free. NO WAY! I was so pumped! Moral of the story: next time I feel reluctant to get out and cross things off my to-do list, I have to keep in mind that I never know what could happen.

6 Months! Halfway to 1 Whole Year!

The 6th month was a great month. Okay, in all honesty, it was a tough month. Parker cut two bottom teeth and is still cutting more, hence almost ALL the pictures he has something in his mouth. I was super sick for a week and then Parker got the flu too. It was way more miserable for me when my baby was sick. And he is currently going through a stage where if he wakes up at night he only wants his momma... BUT! I really am loving every day with this kid. He is so funny and is SUCH a boy, wait, let me re-phrase that, he is SUCH a GRISHAM boy. And if you know a Grisham boy then you know what I mean. And when Parker prefers me over Seth its hard not to secretly love it. I can't believe we are halfway to a year already... And actually as of today he is 7 months, but you probably expected that from me.

Snow Family

It snowed a few days ago and it was PERFECT snow for making a snow family. I was so excited because when it snowed around Thanksgiving it was sooooo freezing and the snow was more icy and we couldn't make anything. So after putting Parker to bed we went to work on our snow family. We have a video monitor in Parker's room and he just snoozed the whole time we were outside, which was wonderful. My snow-mama is on the right, next to the snow-daddy and in front is our little snow-love-child. Then we came inside, had some hot cocoa and went to bed, since there was still school the next day. In the morning I opened the curtains to show Parker our snow family and it had already melted!

Christmas 2010

Whew! It has been a while. Lets just sum it up by saying... look to my previous post. We have been sick in this household but by now our immune systems are stronger and we are ready to fight off anything that comes our way. So my Christmas pictures are definitely late but hey, lets be serious, I am not known for my punctuality. I wish I would have taken more pictures on Christmas day, especially during our Grisham family dance off, but Christmas day was when the flu hit hard. Christmas Eve I also don't have many pictures of and I can't think of a valid excuse as to why. Either way, we had a wonderful Christmas Eve and a wonderful Christmas morning at our house. Parker was so excited about his presents, and when I say Parker, I mean Parker's dad. We set out the cookies for Santa, as usual, and we must have left out some fantastic cookies because he left us some pretty great stuff. Parker got some sippy cups and a sensory ball. Seth got LOTS of his favorite treats, a pineapple, and a REI sleeping bag. I got some of my favorite treats a wok, new workout pants and some bamboo spatulas (sounds not that exciting, but I was ecstatic). Also, please notice that Parker has different jammies on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning... we switched to special nighttime diapers after that incident.

It's Worth It...

...to get a flu shot. Seth got a flu shot, working at the hospital its mandatory. Parker got a flu shot, being so little I felt it necessary. I was going to get a flu shot when I had time but now it seems pointless since this last week my immune system has taken a beating from the nasty flu bugs. Christmas day I was feeling great and then all the sudden the toilet bowl was my best friend. I was racked with stomach pains and chills for a good few days and then just when things were looking up I was struck again. Having a consistent fever of 102 for days isn't ideal this time of year. Today I finally stopped living a comatose lifestyle and realized a missed the snow outside and Parker cut his first tooth. I couldn't believe it, he didn't even cry at all, in fact during the time I was completely dead to the world he was actually a super good boy. Luckily my mother was our saving grace and we've been camped out at my parents place while my sweet husband works/racks up his hours at the hospital. At least I was able to enjoy Christmas morning and hopefully by next year I will be back to 100% health. Christmas pics to follow... eventually...

5 months!

I am putting these pictures up late, as usual, Parker will be 6 months soon but at 5 months he was just as cute as ever. He loves his daddy more during the day but at night he only loves his mom, which means I don't get much sleep since Parker has also decided that its fun to wake up ALL THE TIME at night. So if you see me around don't be surprised if I look like a zombie. He is an excellent little swimmer. He gets complimented on his adorable smile everywhere we go. He loved looking at the snow and he made the littlest snow angel in the world when it snowed here. He is super close to crawling... he does the baby inch-worm like a pro. He definitely has his daddy's eyes. He makes the funniest faces and is really getting into playing with his toys and laughing and distracting me all day. When I tried to take pictures he was moving around too fast so some of them didn't turn out that great with the bad lighting inside.

No, he is not standing on his own, Seth likes to prop him up against things and he will normally hold himself up for a minute or two before slowly sliding back down

Christmas Tree Cutting 2010

This year we did not have that great of a turn out for the big Christmas Tree cutting the day after Thanksgiving. We are always so excited to get out the snow gear and head to the mountains to play but... this year most people were already tired of the snow before Thanksgiving even arrived. Stupid El Nino. But us Grishams are troopers and we headed out to find us a tree. Unfortunately, we could not get high enough on the mountain-side to go where the good trees are but my sweet husband trekked for a long time and brought us back a winner. The boys built some sweet snow forts for an epic snowball fight that didn't even take place because Gage was always in the line of fire trying to play with the forts. And Seth and I were rockin' some beanies that I made myself! It was a lot of fun and everyone who didn't come really missed out.

1st Time Swimming

PK LOVES swimming. Look out Michael Phelps!!! He needs to work on his kicking because right now he just kicks like a little merman (not to be confused with a mermaid) but he loves to splash and play. It was even awesome for me because he was sooo tired after swimming that he slept for a good two hours when we got home. We are going to try and go swimming at least once a week with Parkers cousins, or at least until I run out of little swimmer diapers. The family swim during the middle of the day is awesome on account of no one is there and we got to chat with the lifeguards and pretty much have the pool to ourselves.

Lovie Bear

Parker has a lovie. His name is Lovie Bear. Parker loves him and will not fall asleep without him. Am I concerned about this? Not at all. Parker is all boy and I am sure that soon enough he will let go of Lovie Bear for soccer balls and lego monsters. I do have one problem however... Parker is 4 months old! We went into the doctors yesterday and he now weighs 16.5lbs is 25.5in long and is in the 70th percentile for weight and height. The doc even gave us the go ahead to start rice cereal. He loves playing with and trying to eat his toes. He loves rolling over, which makes it incredibly hard to get him dressed and change his diaper. He loves being stylish and wearing cute outfits and sporting a mohawk. He still loves his dad more than his mom, unless he is hungry. He has the cutest dimples ever! And lucky for us he has also started teething, which means nothing can control his drool and he will try to chew on anything and everything. We love our Parker boy!

Best Buds

Parker Grisham and Parker Willmore are going to be the best of buds whether they like it or not. They are only 3 weeks apart and see each other pretty much every day. They are so stinkin cute, even when they are literally stinkin.

Today I went to take a pic of the boys again and they started holding hands on their own! Lets just hope they don't want to hold hands when they are older. Although, Seth says they aren't holding hands, they are just trying to arm wrestle.

Pumpkin Patch

Apparently in the month of October it is mandatory to take your kids to the pumpkin patch for pictures. Thanks to Ashley for informing me. As a new mom I have yet to learn all the obligations that come with toting around a little one. So on Tuesday afternoon my cousin, Audrey, and her little Austin, came with PK and I to fulfill the required pumpkin patch pictures. The boys were very well behaved and we managed to get a few good shots in. They are only 3 weeks apart and are going to be such good friends. We had a great time! So now if someone asks me if I have done my October parental duties I can respond on a positive note. But I do have one question... if your son and/or daughter is too young to consume candy by the handfuls, is it still required to take them trick or treating?

Parker is now 3 months old! Time is just flying by these days but Seth and I are having a blast with Parker. I have some hilarious videos I am trying to figure out how to post so hopefully those will be coming soon. Parker loves to take baths, I mean he LOVES his baths; look out Michael Phelps! PK will be in swim lessons on three more months and I am excited to see how he will do. These days Parker likes to spend his time jumpin' in his old school Johnny Jump-Up, laughing, hanging out in the garage with his dad, helping me with the laundry and his favorite part of the day is in the morning (around 7am) when he wakes up and is allowed to be in our bed for a while. Parker is the cutest; I am bias of course.

If you remember, back in June we started a real garden of our own... Well... that garden has been growing out of control. We don't even come close to keeping up. Anyone need lettuce??? Swiss chard? Onions? Tomatoes? Zucchini? Carrots? Apparently we have been blessed with green thumbs. Every morning Seth and Parker water the garden and a couple times a week we go and harvest what we need but we do not need THAT much lettuce. I mean, we love salads and delicious sandwiches but we had no idea our garden would grow so well. So if anyone wants home grown organic veggies, let me know!

Uncle Keaton is here!

We had such a sweet surprise over the weekend. Uncle Keaton, who we haven't seen since... our wedding, surprised everyone and came home for three days. On Saturday morning we all got together for what we thought was a special announcement via Skype with Keaton, and everyone was shocked when he just walked in the back door and asked what was for breakfast. It was so great to see him and our little Parker Keaton was so excited to meet the uncle he was named after. Keaton is a Marine who has been stationed in Japan and is currently on tour in Nevada for a few weeks. He got to meet his newest niece and nephew for the first time. We spent the whole weekend with him and the family doing whatever Keaton wanted to do. We even managed to squeeze in some family pictures the night before he left, despite the rain and the last minute notice, we got a few good ones. We love you Keaton. We can't wait until you come home again!!!

2 Months!

I know these pictures are going up late, Parker will be 3 months in 6 days, but I figured I might as well. He is growing like crazy and it has been so fun. Seth and I are very lucky to have such an obedient baby. He goes to bed every night at 9:30 and sleeps 8 to 9 hours, wakes up and plays with us for a while before he gets hungry and then goes to sleep again until 10am. He hardly ever cries. He smiles and laughs all the time. Although he doesn't take naps very well during the day, I'd rather have a baby who sleeps through the night than a baby who takes great naps. He loves taking baths, I'll let him splash around until his fingers and tones are prunes! My only complaint... when he decides to poo its like he wants to cleanse his whole colon at once... what can I say, he's a three outfit a day kind of guy. But hey, whats a little extra laundry here and there.

Tacoma Rainiers Game

Last Saturday my awesome sister-in-law, invited us to go to the Tacoma Rainier's game against Portland. We were so excited to take PK to his first baseball game. He was more interested in eating his hands than he was in watching the game, but he sure looked cute in his baseball outfit. Tacoma lost 5 - 3. Thanks Auntie Alyssa!

Seth - Mt. Adams

Back in July, Seth went on the high adventure with some of the young men from church. They went to summit Mt. Adams, as some of you may remember, last summer we did this and it was the worst experience ever! This year, however, Seth said it could not have been more perfect. He took these pictures on our small digital camera and I am finally getting around to downloading all the pictures from it. This time around, Seth remembered to use sunblock and chap-stick. We, as in the Acuna family, have not had a family picture since... 2006? So with Cristina and Samuel leaving for BYU at the end of the month we had to squeeze in time for a family photo shoot. It was Seth and Parker's first time in the Acuna family pictures, Seth did wonderful... Parker... cried or slept in all the pictures. But I can't blame him, he had just gotten his two month shots right before pictures so he was not a very happy camper. The wonderful Miss Stephanie Jarstad took our pictures, she also did our engagements and wedding photos before her mission to Colorado. We love Steph. Ocean Shores

Since this weekend was going to be super hot we decided to head to the coast. I have never been to Ocean Shores before and neither has Parker so we figured we might as well go enjoy a day at the beach... except for the heat never quite made it to the coast. We had a great time even though it was much colder than anticipated. I had no idea you could drive on the beach, park your car and get out and play right there. We woke up early on Sunday morning to beat everyone else and get a sweet spot on the beach (which we did) and we also managed to make it to a small church branch out there as well. We spent the whole day playing and eating and Parker spent most of his time doing what he does best... sleeping and eating. Thanks Justin and Ashley for inviting us to go!

I just love watching my husband and my son together. Seth always tells Parker that he is the man of the house when he's gone and he tries to teach little Parker to do man things. The other day they were both in their plaid shorts with their shirts off working on the house and then today Parker had his first shower (mostly because he had pooped twice all over himself). Seth is so good with Parker, he is such a fun dad. In no time those boys are going to be out camping, grunting, working out and doing other man things.

New Stats - 8 weeks

This week I had a very traumatic experience... I had to leave Parker for three hours! Seth was at school and I had to go to the dentist for my first ever cavity (which was very traumatic in and of itself). My mother was sooo excited to baby-sit but I was sooo nervous to leave him. Its not that I don't trust my mom or anything, but it was going to be Parker's first time without one of his parents and he has become very much aware of when we are not the ones holding him. When I left, he cried for a few minutes and then slept the rest of the time so I don't think he noticed I was gone. It was traumatic for me, don't make fun. Parker has turned into such a chub ball; I LOVE IT. He weighs in at 12lbs 15oz with a length of 23.5in putting him in the 75th percentile for both his weight and height but proportionately he comes in at the 50th percentile. He is very much a boy, he grunts all the time, he loves sitting in his poop, it makes him laugh and smile and although I don't document all his blow-outs and boogers like some people I know, they do happen quite often. Speaking of which, I think he just blew out his clothes again...

I have friends! Kamry and Rochelle and Alyssa came to visit us this week. They weren't able to stay for long but it was still sooooo good to see them. Alyssa left Tuesday morning for China, lucky! And Kam and Ro will be back at BYU in the fall. Parker was super excited to see them and he loved them right away. He wants to see them again soon, he told me so. Thanks for coming to visit. Parker is Taking Over

First of all, I LOVE being a momma. The only thing that could make life better is if Parker were potty trained, or at least let me know when he is done doing his business. Yet I find it funny that this very very small person has taken over the WHOLE house. He has his own room, a bed in our room, in the living room he has a bouncy chair, a tummy time mat, a play mat and a boppy pillow. He has blankets in every room, diapers and wipes in every room, he even requires his own laundry detergent and he has his own bath tub. I'd imagine if anyone one else were to suddenly start living with us they would not be allowed to take over like this. But we love him and Seth and I already know that the "Take Over" has barely begun.

We celebrated Parker's 1 month mark at the cabin. His swim trunks don't quite fit yet, but he'll grow into them. It was our first family vacation and we made it home right before Seth had to start B term for summer quarter at UW. So nice to get away for a couple days. Parker LOVED looking at the water and I just know he can't wait to go back. He is too little to go fishing this year, which really bummed Seth out, but maybe next year.

Sunday the 25th of July was Parker's blessing day. He had the cutest white outfit, it made him look like he was going to the prom. The white blanket he is laying on was made by my Grandma and it took her MONTHS to make, its beautiful. We have some new firsts for little Parker. Yesterday we drove down to the annual Spader family camp-out and Parker got to meet baby Austin for the first time, they are 3 weeks apart. We had some fun in the shade, it was way too hot to be out in the sun. Parker mostly slept and ate and pooped though. Everyday Parker is growing and we are loving it. Last night after we got home from the camping trip we decided Parker was ready for his first real bath in his giant bath ducky! He loved it... for a while.

A Real Garden of Our Own

Just two days after Parker came home, we added another new addition to the family... our garden. Seth and I have a wonderful grandpa who is a Master Gardener and he helped us build, plant and start our little garden. We are so excited to finally have a backyard for gardening and we still have plenty of space to play soccer and frisbee with Parker (I have to remind Seth that Parker is still too young for that). This year we wanted to start small and simple, so we planted Swiss chard, carrots, zucchini, cabbage, pumpkins, tomatoes, a sunflower for me and TONS of radishes for Seth. We just hope that the we have inherited the green thumb from Papa.

Labor and Delivery of Parker

The past couple days have been a whirlwind and it feels very surreal. It has yet to sink in that Seth and I are parents though I have noticed that our conversations these days are more about poopy diapers and taking naps. I decided that while Parker is sleeping (he is a very good sleeper) I should get this up on the blog. Here is the recap of my labor and delivery:
One day after Parker’s due date on June 15tth I started having contractions at 5am… except I had no idea that they were contractions, I thought that Parker was just inside pushing on me and it caused a lot of pressure (side note to everyone who has told me what a contraction feels like, you need to be more descriptive!) Then I noticed that these feelings of pressure were coming pretty consistently so I woke Seth up and he started his contraction timer app on his phone that he was so excited to use. It turned out that I was feeling lots of pressure every five minutes and the feeling lasted for 38 to 45 seconds. I called the hospital and said that I thought I was having contractions but I wasn’t sure, they told me that it didn’t sound like I was and that I needed to take a warm bath and stay at home. So I did that and nothing changed so I called the hospital again around 8am and they told me that I could come in and get checked. Seth and I thought that I was just having some pains and we would be sent home for sure; we almost didn’t even grab my hospital bag but we were not prepared at all for actually staying when we got there.
As we were filling out paperwork in the ER another expecting mother came in behind us just screaming and going nuts and since I was just walking around and not screaming and not going nuts I started to feel really embarrassed for even coming in at all as I clearly was not as much in labor as this girl. They wheeled me up to the labor and delivery to be checked anyways and Seth and I were quite surprised to find out I was dilated to a 4-5. The nurse told us that we were definitely having a baby today and we couldn’t believe it. As it turns out the other expecting mother who was going nuts was in the next room over and I was much farther along than she was; apparently I have a much higher pain tolerance than I thought.
By this time it was 9am and we called the family to tell them what was going on and that there would be a new family member by the end of the day. My mother quickly left her work and Ashley left the daycare to come be with us. At 10:30am I got my epidural; I figured I was going to get one anyway so there was no point in waiting until I couldn’t stand the contractions to get it. We waited for a few hours for me to dilate to a 10 and passed the time by taking a nap, watching the World Cup, reading magazines and making predictions about what time Parker would come. A week earlier Seth and I took a video on my cell phone of us making predictions on the day he would be born and I was a few days off but Seth was pretty spot on; he predicted June 15th at 3:07pm. At the hospital we decided we were going to play “Price is Right” rules and you can be as close to the actual time without going over. Around 3pm I started feeling like I could push and soon I had the doctor and nurses swarming around me. There is no sense of privacy when you’re in labor, I lost count of how many people saw my forbidden zone. It took me about ten minutes to figure out how to really get a good push and another twenty three to actually push him out, total pushing time 33minutes. And he was born at 3:37pm, Seth was close on his guess. I think I had a pretty good labor and delivery, even if it had been hours and hours of hard labor, seeing and holding Parker for the first time was worth anything. He weighed 7.9lbs, much bigger than anyone predicted, 21in for length, 10 fingers, 10 toes, 2 eyes, 2 ears, 2 arms and 2 legs. We couldn’t be happier parents.

Saturday, June 12th 2010 in the Tacoma Dome our sister Cristina took one of the biggest steps thus far in her life, graduating from Federal Way High School. Now that I have a real oven...
quick funny story: at our old place we just had a convection/toaster type oven that plugged in and when I made lasagna instead of baking it for 2 hours I accidentally left it on the toast setting, it was just a little crispier than normal...
Okay, but now that I have a real oven I plan to do a lot more baking and cooking. I was so excited to try out some cupcake ideas from the book "Hello, Cupcake." I looked everywhere but couldn't find the red cupcake wrappers so my apple cupcakes look a little off from the profile view but from the aerial view they look amazing (in my opinion). I already have some great ideas for the little guy's first birthday party... shoot, I have so many cool things I want to try we may just go Peruvian style and have a party for every month of his first year!

The Big Move... Finally

What a relief! We are finally moved in to our new place. We are officially unpacked (though not completely organized yet) and have been living here for almost a full week now. Earlier today we got the internet hooked up so now I no longer have to squint my eyes from checking my email on my phone. There are a few things left to do to make this place really a home for us but we have all our pictures on the walls, Seth has his TV and surround sound up and is currently working on installing me a garage door opener. I have the kitchen and the bedroom in order and am just itching to get working on the nursery but I also can't wait for the garage to be cleared so that I can organize all my storage paraphernalia. We meant to take pictures earlier in the cleaning/painting/moving in process but Seth and I are way to easily distracted and forgetful so instead the only pictures I took just make it look like we are very messy which in fact we are the complete opposite, me being OCD type organized. So there will be more pictures to follow.

Mormon Prom 2010

This is mainly for my sister, so she can see some of her pictures from the prom. Mimy and I took pictures for her prom group and we had a lot of fun. They are all so cute! (well, the boys are handsome) We took some pictures at the house and then at Lake Fenwick park in Kent. My sister said she had such a fun time, and they all were looking good.
I do have to admit, I did go shopping with my sister for her dress and I was so tempted to buy myself a dress that I figured would fit me after the pregnancy... I just love dressing up all fancy schmancy.

Vancouver BC Temple

So sorry about the delay. In April Seth and I went with the youth to see the open house of the Vancouver BC Temple. It was such a fun experience, we loved it! Hopefully we will be able to go to a session there someday. It was somewhat of a rainy day but the temple grounds were beautiful and the inside was even more so. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get a stamp in my passport for crossing the border, but overall the trip was great!

For those of you interested in an update... We have been super busy lately with expecting our son in just under four weeks now and with trying to pack everything up for a big move into a new house! Seth is still working at the airport and he also just got a new job at a big hospital, which is great to help him get experience hours in for PA school. Seth is also coming up on the end of his second quarter at UW and is doing so well. I am currently trying not to go crazy as I have the innate desire to "nest" and to sanitize EVERYTHING and I need to focus on packing without doing any lifting. I am also keeping busy with coaching distance runners in track for Illahee, which I love, and keeping up to date with my coupon-ing, which I am addicted to. Hopefully I will post some pictures of the new house soon.

Cousins and Easter

Easter Sunday, after general conference and our big family dinner and the Easter egg hunt, I pulled out the laptop... bad idea when all my little cousins are hopped up on jelly beans. We played with the photo booth and watched some funny videos on youtube until they got bored and decided to move onto something else. Seth and I just love living so close to our family!

Stair Climb 2010

The 2010 Stair Climb for Leukemia and Lymphoma. A few weeks ago Seth, Jordan and Brandon all ran 69 flights of stairs in the tallest building in Seattle, the Columbia Tower. They ran under the team of Connelly Law Offices but no one from the office showed up! Apparently there is a big case that needed immediate attention but next year they will have to come up with another excuse. Since Alyssa didn't make it I still got myself a t-shirt, which is my favorite part of running races. Obviously I didn't run, no strenuous activities for me these days. Seth got the best time out of the boys and out of the 3000 people that ran he placed exactly 100, not to shabby, but next time he wants to do much better.

Seth's 2nd Whidby Island Adventure

This last week was spring break so Seth and I tried to take full advantage of his time off from school. It sure was nice not having to get up at 7am every day and it was even nicer having him around all the time. We went on a three day trip to our family cabin on Whidby Island and the Harkers came with us. It was Celia and Chloe's first ferry ride, which was pretty exciting. We went out to my grandpa's new favorite restaurant, La Casita, which was delicious. Seth and I got up early on Tuesday and went fishing. The water was super clear and Seth was able to watch a fish come right up to his bait before he snagged it and reeled it in. The boys also went out to the big sand wall to do some shooting/target practice (funny how MY birthday present is Seth's favorite new toy). We played lots of frisbee, visited the town of Langley and built a pretty good fire to roast mallows. And on Wednesday afternoon we saw a huge gray whale right in front of our cabin. He was feeding off the sand shrimp and krill, it was so awesome to see. I have a video but I can't figure out how to load it quite yet. The whale would go up on his side and use one fin to dig/stir up the sand to find food. He was out there for so long that we finally got bored watching him. It was a good little vacation. I'm guessing next time we go to the cabin we will be bringin the little guy too.

For my big 21st birthday I decided to go down to Utah to see some of my very best friends and to watch some of the dancesport competition too. Seth and I had never been apart til this trip so I was really nervous about going but it was probably best that I let Seth get some good studying time in for finals week (apparently I distract him). I didn't tell many people that I was coming down, I apologize for that. Last time I was supposed to fly down I had to cancel at the last minute and was afraid that that might happen again, plus I just wanted to have a pretty easy going week. I have a few pictures but I wasn't really trying out my photography skills so they aren't the greatest shots I've taken. Thanks to Kamry and Martha for letting me crash, and to Andrew for letting me take Martha. I had a great time but I learned that leaving Seth isn't as easy as I thought it would be, especially because I didn't realize how much he does for me around here.

We went to watch Andrew's intramural basketball game, the boy has skills

We bowled... lets just say I averaged about a 60 for the three games we played, kind of embarrassing compared to Miss Martha who was on her high school bowling team

Kam and I went to the baseball game against UW. I wore my UW sweater to support my home team but when BYU was up by 14 runs in the top of the third I changed my allegiance

Seth the Venture Leader

Seth is the Federal Way ward venture leader and every Tuesday night he is out on activities with his boys. Sometimes I come and watch and I would participate but apparently pregnant women aren't allowed to do some activities. He sure loves his calling, mostly because he gets to play a lot. I just wanted to post some pictures of the fearless leader in action.

Vancouver 2010 OLYMPICS

Seth and I were there... in Vancouver! Seth went up on a Friday evening with his buddy, Taylor, to watch a hockey game, Latvia vs. Czech Republic. He said the game itself wasn't that great, mostly because in the Olympics the hockey players aren't allowed to fight and because Latvia was no good but it was just cool to be there at the games. On Saturday Seth and I drove up together to check out the place and try to meet some famous athletes. We did see the Russian figure skater who took silver but he looked kind of mad so we didn't want to bother him. We saw the torches burning, saw millions and millions of people everywhere, and while we were eating dinner and desert we watched the short track speed skaters compete. It was a great Saturday, we spent hours walking through the city and plan to go back after the Olympics are over and there aren't so many people there.

This was as close to the torches we wanted to get, there were way way way too many people and long lines to get to the balcony view

We also went to the China town there and ate dinner in the International Center

Pink and Blue Pictures

Sorry it took so long to put up pictures, Seth and I brought our camera to the party but never brought it out so I've been relying on Ashley to send me her pics. Our Pink and Blue party was a success, my parents and little brother and little sister flew back from Peru that afternoon so they were able to be there and we had TONS of good food. Enjoy the shots of Nana cutting the cake, she was rooting for team Blue.

The Holidays

I know this is way past date, but I figured I might as well let you all know that we did celebrate a lot this last month. However, we failed to take any pictures! I don't know what we were thinking, perhaps we were too caught up in the moment, either way we both enjoyed the holidays this year.

December 20th - One Year Anniversary
Seth got me my favoritest flowers, yellow roses, and we went to see the Nutcracker put on by Pacific Northwest Ballet. I have never seen the Nutcracker and I loved it.

December 23rd - Seth's 25th Birthday
I got up early to make Seth a big birthday breakfast. After breakfast we planned on spending the day together and going out to lunch and I didn't want to feel sick so I tried taking my new medication and it knocked me out from 11am to 5pm... then Seth went to work. I am currently devising a new plan to make up for missing his birthday, but he still loves me.

December 24th - Christmas Eve
Seth worked late, but I spent the evening with my family. We had a nice dinner, a talent show, a reenactment of the Nativity and then when Seth got off work for the night, we spent the night at my parents house because my little brother would be sure to get us up early.

December 25th - Christmas
Yup, we woke up early and opened presents at my parents house. Seth spoiled me with three new pairs of shoes! I am still excited about them. Then we went and spent the rest of Christmas day with his family. I got a snuggie, maternity clothes and Seth got some sweet long range walkie-talkies.

December 31st - New Years Eve
Seth and I stayed up way way way too late this year and caught up on sleep for the next three days. We didn't do anything super exciting but spent time with friends, played some rockband, ping pong and basketball.

Since the holidays and winter vacation ended, Seth has started school at UW and we get up every morning together, then he leaves for school and most of the time I go back to bed. Next Monday we are going to find out if we are having a girl or a boy and we are so excited. Other than that, this child has been moving around like crazy and still making me nauseous.

Its a lemon

Well, if you haven't already figured out from my last two posts, we are expecting. Seth thinks its a boy, I think it a girl but really have no preference. Amazingly enough, I am almost to 15 weeks now and our baby is the size of a lemon! Soon we will graduate to the size of a naval orange, then an avocado, and so on until we reach the size of a watermelon. I am a member of thebump.com which is where I found this "How big is baby" according to fruits and veggies, its actually quite funny.
Today we went in to the doctors to get a check-up. The doctor says everything is going well and I have nothing to worry about. I think its weird how easily it came... the whole bit about moms worrying about their children sneaked up on me so unexpectedly. We got an ultrasound and got to see these two little legs kicking like crazy, we've got a runner or a swimmer on our hands thats for sure. I don't have a bump yet but I'm sure it'll show up soon enough.

Your adorable little fetus is busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, and (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over the body for warmth.

Oh Christmas Tree!

Its a little late, but I have to post about one of our most recent adventures. Every year, the day after Thanksgiving, it is a Grisham tradition to go up to the mountains and (with a valid permit) we chop down a real Christmas tree. This year was my very first year and I was pretty excited about it. The Nichols and the Jex family came too. One thing about this yearly trip that Seth failed to mention is that the GIRLS are the ones who hike all over the mountain to seek out the best Christmas tree. I was up for the challenge, of course, but was a little nervous since at the time (and currently) I was experiencing some morning sickness that seemed to last all day. But I went with the other girls and we trekked all over the place trying to find a good looking tree. After about an hour or so I was getting hungry and tired and then I found the perfect tree. I chopped it down myself and then Chelsie and her friend Kurt helped me drag it all the way back to the truck. The rest of the girls didn't come back for a long while after that, but I guess they are just too picky. It was quite fun, but the jury is still out on whether or not I will do it again next year.

New Additions to the Family

I got an email from my older brother complaining that we have not updated our blog in a long time. I was a bit surprised because I thought that Samuel didn't even know what a blog was. But thus, here I am updating on a few new additions to our family...
Seth and I finally got on the same cell phone plan and in so doing we HAD to get new phones. I thought that I would never want anything other than my dinky little flip phone which I loved so much but I was soon convinced otherwise. I had a blackberry for less than a day and didn't like it at all, too confusing for me, so I finally settled on the Palm Pixi. Its light, easy to use and so far I haven't lost it.

Seth, on the other hand, likes the phone called the Moment. He is kind of a tech nerd and since we got our new phones he has been showing non-stop me how he can download cool gadgets and watch TV and pretty much do anything.

The next two additions to our family are two new fish. I finally decided that our fish, Randy, needs a new home. We've managed to keep him alive for a few months now so we were willing to take the risk of getting a new home and new friends. So we bought two bottom feeders or algae eaters and named them Blake and Mimy. Other than that... well I am now about eleven weeks pregnant and my days consist mostly of throwing up and being nauseous, hence we have not had much to blog about but we are very excited about our upcoming new addition to our family.
